Michell’s new online moisture and humidity calculator offers
Mon Dec 12, 2011 7:47 am
Michell Instruments have produced a new downloadable WindowsTM humidity calculator, available for free download from our support section,
http://www.michell.com/uk/support/sware-downloads.htm.
The calculator is a valuable tool for anyone working with processes involving moisture control or analysis. The application allows for easy calculations and conversions between units of moisture content in parts per million (ppm), dew point, relative humidity and moisture in liquid.
The humidity calculator offers a comprehensive selection of humidity units. High and low humidity ranges are covered. It facilitates calculations with extremely dry gases containing only parts per billion (ppb) moisture content – which is, of most relevance to sectors such as semiconductor industry. At the other end of the scale, it is capable of calculations involving very high concentrations of water vapour – such as in paper production and certain metallurgical processes.
Parameters included on the online calculator:
• Relative humidity
• Absolute humidity, g/m3
• Mixing ratio, g/Kg
• Moisture content, ppmV, in gases
• Moisture content, ppmW, in liquids
• Dew point, °C, and vapour pressure
Pressure and temperature compensation is incorporated, where relevant, for each unit conversion. To complete the comprehensive coverage of the calculator, metric to imperial conversions are provided for temperature and pressure.
Stay tuned for more information regarding Michell’s release of the calculator as an application for the iPhone and Android Smartphones.

AMS APPOINTED PAC-INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS DISTRIBUTOR
Tue Nov 29, 2011 4:41 pm
In keeping with PAC’s commitment to serving the comprehensive needs of its customers and remaining proactive to the needs of the industry, PAC has renewed its focus on process analytics and will leverage its Antek, ISL and PSPI businesses. PAC’s expanding involvement in the process analytics market is natural course, according to Daniel Benitez, VP Product Management & Marketing. “PAC has achieved global pre-eminence over the years with our advanced laboratory analysis equipment and technologies. Now, we are bringing these proven methodologies to process analytics. These are transferable technologies; we’re dealing in most cases with the same customer, even though lab and process are essentially two different worlds. In simplest terms, we can essentially offer the customer ‘lab accuracy online,’ with correlation from lab to process using the same analytical engine.”
Primary process applications include nitrogen for catalyst protection and online sulphur. Customers experience improvements in speed and accuracy due to the real-time nature of the analysis rather than sampling and lab testing; overall lower cost of ownership than lab analysis; higher throughput due to less interruption of production, sampling, or process anomalies; and improved distillation analysis for blending operations. Process analytics allow the customer greater control over the process, due in part to a shorter time between sampling – 4 times a day with laboratory-based analysis, versus every 30 minutes, for example. Process optimisation and production control are significantly improved, with full automation.

AMS APPOINTED MICHELL INSTRUMENTS DISTRIBUTOR
Fri Oct 21, 2011 2:30 pm
Michell Instruments are manufacturers of dew-point transmitters, cooled mirror hygrometers, relative humidity sensors, process moisture analyzers, hydrocarbon dew-point analyzers, moisture in liquid analyzers and oxygen analyzers, Michell Instruments is an international leader in high-precision sensing with over 30 years’ experience in the field.
Our range of high-precision capacitive moisture sensors help customers to measure trace moisture in their process applications, whilst our relative humidity transmitters and relative humidity and temperature sensors are widely used in HVAC applications, pharmaceutical storage and other production processes where controlled environmental conditions are crucial.
Our humidity calibration systems, together with our reference dew-point hygrometers, enable customers to carry out calibration of portable hygrometers and relative humidity instruments in-house, saving on expense and downtime.
We offer high-speed measurement of oxygen in a range of applications, including combustion optimisation for power stations, controlling levels of CO2 for breweries, and clean-gas processes, such as silicon wafer production and pure gas generation.
Customers in the natural gas industry and power plants save millions of dollars in repairs and down-time by using our Condumax II hydrocarbon dew-point analyzers to ensure transmission of natural gas quality at custody transfer, prevent gas burner failure and prolong the life of process equipment.
Our analyzers for moisture in hydrocarbon liquids are available in explosion proof, intrinsically safe and laboratory versions and allow the continuous measurement of the moisture content in a wide range of hydrocarbon liquids, including transformer oil, hydraulic oil, petrochemical fractions and pure hydrocarbons.
